Page Background

The most powerful and influential citizens are those who adopted and were

captured by a cause early in their life; because these individuals lived their

cause through and did not betray it, they are venerated by society as a result

of their great impact and the great legacy that they leave behind.

We all want our First Year Experience project to turn into a sensation. It takes serious

motivation and getting students excited about their new life and about their prospects in

and through it. Within society there is a niche area for each one of these students. The

First Year Experience project needs to help each one find their own calling in life.

The First Year Experience project must drive awareness, buzz, excitement and action,

consuming up everyone in its path. It must be driven and passionate. It should advance

an important portion of the institutional transformation agenda. It should mobilize,

advocate, cajole, appeal, while it rationalizes and prepares youth for the future.

Ultimately it should help build the graduate citizen in each young person and identify the

calling for each of the young students; and this is likely to be well into the period and

tenure of the total student experience.

While we must ensure retention while we also ensure belonging in the same way as we

must open access while we also ensure success.

An efficient system is achievable.
