Motivation
The First Year Experience project started at Unisa last
year. It is handled by Student Retention Unit
The main goal of this project is to improve the
retention of newcomers to higher education (students
passing modules, passing the courses)
We will streamline various processes in order to provide
students at-risk with necessary support (data gathering
and analysis, profiling, early alert, referral, monitoring,
induction - MOOC)
We will use demographic, psychological and
educational attainment data to profile the students and
direct them to appropriate support structures
There was a suggestion that we should consider
economical factors as well – this project is the follow up
on that idea
