GENERAL EDUCATION
Background
•
DUT vision demands that students graduate with skills,
knowledge, attitudes and values that will enable them to
participate fully, both as citizens and professionals
•
This requires a critical paradigm shift in the way in which
we envisage our mandate as a UoT in SA.
•
To develop “globally portable citizens, able to engage
effectively with knowledge generation and management
in increasingly diverse and globalised workplaces” (Kift,
2008)*, then DUT’s curriculum and pedagogy must be
intentionally designed to prepare our graduates for
employment, while simultaneously preparing them for
critical citizenship in an emergent and still fragile
democracy.
