The development of a fully functional,

user-friendly early-alert system

to

flag

the

first-time entering students

who may

require additional support

during their

first year of studies at Unisa:

1.Using the FYE MOOC to isolate

students who achieve 49% or less

in each

Learning Unit. Upon receiving the data, the SRU will manually cluster the

students according to the support service required. In terms of the

ShadowMatch® Learning Unit, the SRU will identify students who fall into the

30th percentile of either the overall match or the critical match and

refer

them

to the

DCCD

in their respective

regions

for non-cognitive support.

2.Next, identify first year students who

did not submit

the first assignment;

submitted it

blank

; or those who

failed

their first assignment. Thereafter,

students will be

clustered

accordingly and followed-up with a needs

assessment.

3.Identifying first year students who

failed

their

examination(s),

so that

proactive support can continue into their next year of study.
