Theoretical Framework

The Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT) by Lent, Brown, and

Hackett, (1994) will be used to investigate first-year students’ course

and module choices.

The principal assumption of this theory lies on the interconnection

between the personal, cognitive, and environmental parameters.

Therefore, the students’ choice and performance at the end of the first

year is a function of personal factors, learning experiences, self-efficacy

beliefs, outcome expectations, interests, environmental norms and

values, and intention
