outlines transitions students encounter during their studies;

high school to university,
•
university to the workplace
•
undergraduate to post-graduate;
•
structured learning to more complex forms,
•
pre-determined content to independent projects, research, field work,
or work-integrated learning.
Students also have to cope with new institutional culture;
•
language, technology and social media
•
peers, social life, finances and controlled substances
•
staff and new and different form of authority
Consequently curricula should identify transitions and help students to successfully navigate
them as part of the enhancement of the total student experience, and for first time
entering, this should form part of the institutional first year experience project.
