The analysis indicated that the orientation programme at VUT may be
considered as an evolving inviting process.

The collaborative approach provides a programme designed to assist
first year students’ transition from secondary school to their new
community of higher learning.

However, moments of intentional and unintentional disinvitation were
identified (people, places and processes).

The findings suggest that the orientation programme is not a politically
neutral event since context impacted and shaped to a certain degree
what we are practicing.
