It is not that prior to the student
protests there had not been
critical voices that had raised
issues of epistemology,
curriculum and the like, but that
they have gained little traction at
universities and in higher
education and have remained
largely marginal concerns…for
reasons that are important to
understand, initiatives to date
have yet to succeed in uprooting
inherited cultures and practices,
and bringing about the far-
reaching transformations that
are necessary and long overdue
(Badat, 2016).
